Introduction  The U3A (University of the Third Age) is a learning co-operative of retired people that enables members to share many educational, creative and leisure activities. Over 500 local U3As have been formed throughout the UK and many other countries have similar organisations. All the UK U3As are self –funded and self – managed. They draw upon the knowledge and experience of their members to organise and lead their study groups.   The UK National Third Age Trust can be reached on www.u3a.org.uk

Relaxing

U3A Farnborough was set up in 1989. It covers the Farnborough and Aldershot district, in North East Hampshire. Other U3As have been set up in  adjacent   localities such as Farnham, Fleet, Ash and Camberley, although there is no territorial constraint on joining any of these U3As. Each U3A arranges its  own courses with, preferably, tutors from its own members. No qualification or previous experience is required to join a group and each group is run in accordance with its members' wishes. Most meet once a fortnight, throughout each term, and meetings take place during the day.

For Farnborough, costs are kept low; £25 annual membership fee. Over and above that, only the few groups that use an external tutor charge an additional fee.

Monthly Meetings, which provide an opportunity for all members to meet together, exchange views and receive the latest news, take place on the last Tuesday of each month usually at St. Mark's Hall, Guildford Road, Farnborough.  At these a guest speaker gives a talk on a chosen subject. Visitors are welcome to come along and to make themselves known.
